Marks On My Skin by J.A. Howell

Kynki Sista

*Review*

Marks on My Skin was the first novel I've read by J.A Howell and I must say I am officially a fan!
This story was captivating and I was immediately drawn into it from the beginning. I'm definitely a fan of books with sexy men and I must say Kieran reeked of sex appeal! The caution on this book says "contains explicit sex" and that is beyond a doubt correct the sex scenes in Marks on My Skin were steamy!! Can you say wet kitty?

This book is dark, sensual, and riveting. Job well done J.A. Howell! Emotions will be all over the place reading this one. A must read!

*Synopsis*
**Not for readers under the age of 18+. Contains language, explicit sex, and adult situations.**

Kieran Donovan has always been a doormat to the women in his life. Begging his wife not to leave after finding her in bed with not one—but five men—only provides further proof of that.

In need of an escape from an empty house and a broken heart, Kieran heads to Midtown to see his estranged brother, Liam. There he meets Shayne Wickham, Liam’s best friend. Shayne’s dark and sexy with a wild streak a mile long and a sexual appetite for things Kieran’s never even dreamed of doing. But after an intense, and all too brief encounter, he’s more than willing to learn. Despite the usual safeguards Shayne keeps around herself and her own wounded heart, she finds herself more than willing to show him the ropes…and the floggers…and the paddles.

Kieran’s never seen himself as dominant in any aspect of his life. But when Shayne submits herself to him, it ignites an inner strength and hunger he never knew he had—and feelings Shayne didn’t know she could have. So used to keeping others at an arm’s length, the ease with which she finds herself trusting Kieran is both exciting and unsettling. Could Kieran be someone she could finally trust her heart to—or will he leave her scarred like everyone else?

Just another mark on her skin

Brooks is enjoying his life with an endless string of one night stands but something about Viv immediately draws him in and he wants nothing more than to get lost in her. This book has cast and I fell in love with everyone of them. Each character even the friends play an important role in the shaping of this wonderful story. A story of redemption, second chances, and an unbreakable love. Steinbrunn's writing wraps you up in the story from beginning to end. Be sure to set aside some devoted reading time because you will not be able to put this down!! A must read!

This New Adult Contemporary Romance is for mature readers, at least 17+ in age, due to adult situations.

*Review*

**I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**

Ashley Beale has done it again! This book was like a breath of fresh air I absolutely love her writing style and lets face it, she tells a hell of a story every time!

Lexi Bennett was the middle child in a fairly large family. With two older brothers constantly chasing girls, two spoiled younger sister, a father who was always working, and a mother on every anti depressant imaginable, it seemed as if there was no room for Lexi. She felt as if she were invisible and the only person she had was her best friend and neighbor Bray....until she met Zander. Zander Daniels was the first person besides Bray who actually seemed to see Lexi and with the simple gesture of offering her a bite to eat a young romance began.
When Lexi and Zander decide to take their young love to the next level she never considered the possibility of creating a child and was soon sent off to live with her grandmother in Ohio having to leave behind the only person she ever loved without so much as a goodbye.
Fast forward ten years with Lexi's mom's health failing she is finally returning home to her family who she never felt close to and the only man she EVER felt close to. How can she tell Zander he's a father? Lexi also finds out that she isn't the only one who's been keeping secrets. She realizes that even after all of this time her love for Zander, and his for her has not faded! Talk about a roller coaster ride!!
Forgive me takes you on a journey of emotions and you will love every bit of it. Lexi has some serious decisions to make. Will she make the right ones? Can she ever forgive herself for her mistakes? Is it too late for her and Zander? It seems as if her life has been turned upside down and she continues to make one bad decision after another...
I hate spoilers because...well they spoil the story so I will just say this book is absolutely worth a read! Add it to your TBRbuy it, and read it! Loved it!!

*Excerpt*
"I didn't mean to snap at you back there. I just can't cancel the wedding. I do love Emerson, I do. I just..." He rubs his face with his hands and lays the back of his head on his seat, not facing my direction anymore. "You just?" He doesn't answer, so after a moment I reach for the door handle. "Don't worry about it Zander. I'll see you tomorrow." "I think I love you more." My head snaps back in his direction, my eyes wide, and my breathing stopped. What did he just say? "Y-you l-love me?" "Always have," he murmurs. I'm lucky i can even hear him. My heart is pounding soo hard I can hear it in my ears. "But I'm with Emerson," he adds on quickly in a louder tone, "and I'm sure you have someone back in Ohio." This wave I keep riding with Zander is going to make me sick. I feel loved, then hated, then adored, then betrayed, then admired, the heartbroken, and it's never ending. "I don't. I haven't. It's always been you Zander. Always." His eyes gloss and it surprises me a lot. I can't believe he is that emotional over this. "Why couldn't you have come back last year, Lexi? Hell last month even. Not two weeks before my wedding. I can't leave her now. I can't." Staring for only a few minutes, I nod my head and accept what is. This is my punishment. I place my hand back on the door handle and whisper out, "Like I said it's not too late." Then I climb out of his pickup, hoping he'll come after me. But he doesn't. He leaves. And a piece of me dies inside.

COVER REVEAL! Because of Kian by Sibylla Matilde

Synopsis

I know I’m twisted. Growing up in a perfectly well-adjusted home, I don’t really have an excuse. But no matter… I realize how messed up I am. And therapy can only do so much.

I pushed my boyfriend to violence, a violence he couldn't control. Sickly, I almost liked it. So I pushed him more. Before long, the pain outweighed the pleasure and the loss I sustained shattered me. So I ran. I’m now a bit shell-shocked harboring a lot of guilt. My boyfriend is now my ex and wants revenge. He wants me to pay for turning him into the monster he’s become. And I still have a deviant yearning that I don’t understand. My own monster inside… my own demon to battle.

I can’t get close to anyone. I can’t give in and scratch that itch. I can’t wreck someone else.

And now there is Kian… my rescuer on a dark, painful night. He sees through my pretense. He tries to pull me from my frightened isolation, to keep me from becoming a victim. He forces me to face my warped desires and shows me that pain doesn’t really have to truly hurt.

He wants to show me a way to serenity. But I am afraid… Will I ruin a good man?

Author Bio

Sibylla Matilde grew up in the mountain valleys of Southwest Montana, and grew up exploring the alfalfa fields on the back of a horse.  She attended a two-room schoolhouse 1st through 6th grade where she had same teacher the whole time.  Beginning at about age 12, Sibylla discovered historical romance, feeding off of work of Jude Devereaux, Lisa Kleypas, and Karen Robards.  She loves a book that can make the reader run the gamut of emotions, from the sweet glow of new love to gut-wrenching heartache.  She always has stories floating around in her head, living in some fantasyland until she writes them down to free them.  She is a true romantic, a bit of a Pollyanna, and a deeply emotional soul.
Music is her emotional trigger.  Growing up with a Wagnarian-opera-loving mother, Sibylla grew up with music that digs deep into her soul and pulls out emotion.  The soundtrack to her life includes different genres and generations.  She looooooooves Thirty Seconds to Mars (rather obsessively, actually) with a little Kings of Leon to mix things up, and pimps them out regularly to all her friends through Spotify.  She also enjoys watching Met Opera HD broadcasts at her local movie theater, and hopes (listening Met?) to someday see Diana Damrau reprise her role as Mozart’s Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte – The Magic Flute.
Sibylla lives with her husband, Mike, a man who she firmly believes saved her from her self-destructive, hot mess self.  He makes her laugh every day, even when things seem to be falling apart around them, and has proved to her that love really can heal a shattered soul.  In 18 years, they have never had a fight, but argue regularly with their two teenage kids who have, unfortunately, inherited their father’s quick wit (unfortunate as it is a quick wit that Sibylla, herself, definitely does not possess – there is a reason she is a writer and not a stand-up comedian), and live a quiet life with their two weird little rescued Chiweenies. Wait… teenagers and little yap-dogs?  Okay, maybe not so quiet.  :)

AXEL by Harper Sloan

Axel is a mixture of themes: romance, love, and the tough issue of domestic violence. I enjoyed this book because of the weaving and bobbing of these elements. The novel has light moments, suspense, and action.

The emotional ties of Axel and Izzy are apparent throughout the story even when divided.
Axel and Izzy are separated at a young age. This starts them on the path of a 12 year estrangement. Axel has a tough alpha-male persona that is hardened by his military service.   His anger and frustration has festered over the lost time.

Izzy has had a very unfortunate life filled with despair, heartbreak, and violence. Izzy's character has trouble coping with what can only be described as one hell after another. Izzy spends her time attempting to keep her emotional self above water. She forms strong bonds with Dee and Greg  (supporting characters) and this enables her to move on.

Not only does Harper Sloan make us form attachments to Izzy and Axel but her supporting characters as well. This is important for the reader and the impulse to continue the series.  Dee is caring, helpful, and saves Izzy at her lowest point.  Greg comes in later in Izzy’s life but is no less important than Dee.  Greg is the catalyst for Izzy’s healing and her association to him is what spurs her eventual redemption and healing.

This is an emotionally charged read with heavy subject matter but the author’s message is clear, true love conquers all.
