You know how you have had a book on your kindle forever and then finally
decide to read it?? Then it's so good you are kicking yourself because
you waited so long??? Well, this is that book....
Good garden of peas this book.... LOVED it!!! Dark and a little twisted. A love story born out of a crazy intense situation. Beauty and The Beast... but not your normal "fairy tale"
Dimitri and Columbia find themselves in an intense situation when she breaks into his apartment to protest a building he has planned. Dimitri thinks she is a hires assassin come to kill him.... this is actually kind of funny, because as you get to know Columbia you can not even picture her as a murderer. But Dimitri is on the run, and he trusts no one, living secluded and constantly watching his back. So he doesnt believe her when she explains her purpose for being in his apartment.
Now, I have to tell you, this is not your normal boy meets girl, they fall in love, get married, have babies and retire in the woods with a white picket fence love story. Its a what in the world is she thinking not trying to get away from him love story.
I was not really crazy about Dimitri in the beginning, but he grew on me. As the story progressed you were able to pick up on his inner turmoil and past hurts. He is disfigured badly, due to his past, and scarred emotionally from trusting the wrong people. But as his need for Columbia grew, he began to let the walls down so we could see the man behind the mask.
Columbia has had a rough life. Used and abused, she has scars of her own. Literally. I loved the quiet strength of Columbia. She was a girl that did what she had to do, without complaint, as she tried to find a better way. She was strong and willful, and refused to back down.
All in all, The Beast kept me glued to the pages. I needed to know what was going to happen. And there was more than once I was a little shocked at the turn of events, and the ending had me thinking-- there better be another book. No, there is not a cliffhanger, But, it is left at a point where Iam hoping the author picks up where she left off and continues their story. Iam dying to see what happens....
