Such a fun and lovely story! Jake and Aubrey both have enough physical and emotional scars to make them err on the side of caution where trust is involved. However Jake has felt dead inside for far too long to not jump, push, or pull his way into Aubrey's heart. She is a jolt of life, like lightening striking his heart and bringing him back to life. Now all he has to do is prove to her that he is man enough to bring her from the darkness and into the light. "It's always darkest before the dawn." Jake knows he has to take it slow with Aubrey, one day at a time. But once they finally come together they are like a hurricane, a whirl wind, theirs is a "Balls to the wall" love story. I expected this book to have more of a hard core vibe to it before reading it, I think that is because of its cover. Just like the book, Jake looks like a hard core bad ass mother effer, but on the inside, in his pages, he is just a beautiful soul that wants to be loved unconditionally and give his love just the same way. Aubrey is an awesome kick ass leading female character, or so it seems, because like Jake, her appearance doesn't match what lies inside her. She is a very scared and frightened girl whose past refuses to let her grow and love outside her family and best friend. Jake may scare the shit out of her at first, but once he pushes away all of her defenses and is in her heart, she knows her life will never be the same. And she is right. Two lost and shadowed souls, just drifting though a dark life, but once these souls slam into each other, they are not lost or dark, they are found and they light up like the fourth of July!
